I am so excited!

I was going to wait to say anything, but I cannot tell anyone yet and I have to tell someone.

We decided today that we are definitely moving out of this RV.  10 days left!  We rented a townhome on VRBO and because of an unexpected bonus, we decided to move out of the RV for our last couple of months so we can get our lives back.

With this, I will be able to partially get my business working again - Tshirt Quilts only - which is what my waiting list consists of.  There is no room for my embroidery machine, however.  We also will be able to buy a weeks worth of groceries at a time being able to take advantage of sales.  The kids will start homeschooling immediately as well.

We will have a master bedroom with our own bathroom and each child will have their own room.  They have to share a shower, but with 2 1/2 baths, we can dedicate one toilet to each child.

The feeling was that the quality of life would improve so dramatically that it is worth the extra cost.  The RV will be moved to our property and as soon as the barn/shed is built, our off-site storage rooms will be vacated.

A library is right across the street from us and I mean literally across the street.  The townhome is 2,200 sq ft, so lots of space.

I cannot tell you how excited I am.  I will never regret our time in this RV, it certainly served its purpose, it is just time to get our lives back, our privacy back, our intimacy back.

For those considering living in a RV while building - I HIGHLY recommend it.  For us, it would have been completely worth it IF we did not have teenagers.  If it were just my husband and I, we would be fine.

We are waiting to tell the kids until they come back from my sister's.  We are moving while they are gone.  It will be an amazing surprise.  Obviously, it will be best when we are in our home, but this will help me when the build goes over time or if anything comes up.  It is just easier to swallow when you have a door and a private bathroom.

As for the RV, we are asked all the time if we are getting rid of it.  Emphatically NO!!!  We are actually taking it when we take our son back to college.  Road Trip!  It is way more comfortable than a hotel.

Other than that, we are stuck at home mainly because DD will have theater practice every weekend until the holidays.  We are also considering a trip to DC, but I don't know if will be in the RV or not.

Hope you are having a great weekend - mine just got great!

  1. You make it sound as if kids sharing a bathroom is a hardship. Good gravy, how many baths in the new place? My kids all share a bathroom. I don't think each family member needs an en suite bathroom. I am not running a bed and breakfast. Occasionally I will let a kid use our master suite, but that's for my convenience, usually, not theirs. If they complain, I point out that I grew up in a circa 1800's New England home. While we all had our own bedrooms, there was only one shower for our family of 8, with ancient plumbing to boot. Too long in the shower, and you had a mere trickle of water. If we wanted a shower before school, we had a three minute limit. There was no need for Mother to enforce it, because we (for the most part) considered that our siblings needed to use the bathroom as well. Let me tell you, I learned A LOT about how to manage my time, space and belongings as a result of that.

    1. Nope, us ALL sharing one bathroom in less than 5 sqft space with no door is a hardship. This rental will have 3 toilets, just like our house we are building. All 4 children have shared 1 bathroom and I rarely let them use our master. However, DH and I agreed that we 1) had the ability and 2) very much wanted it to build a house with 3 toilets.

  2. Fantastic! You sound sooo excited. I am sure the girls will be happy, too. Your embroidery machine won't fit anywhere with that much room? Will it be as close as the RV so you can do your checkups on the building guys? I imagine your girls will be shocked when you take them to the new home instead of the RV. I wish I could see that!

    1. It might have enough room - they have it pretty filled with furniture right now. We will see. I will still be close enough to check frequently. It is all my DH - I want to tell them now!

    2. I would act as if nothing happened and drive them to the new place and go in and let them be surprised to see all your things in there. I suppose your husband and you will enjoy not only the room and empty house until they come home. Your embroidery machine WILL fit!

  3. Could you cover the cost of this rental with your business? I'd probably work hard to try and not touch that bonus. Then again, I'm in debt payoff mode so I hate seeing any extra expense for anyone! Enjoy your extra space.

    1. Most of it. I have a tendency to get depressed and I know this is not what most people would do, but our relationships are suffering more than I let on. This will only be for 2 months max.

  4. That is awesome. When I just read your earlier post I was going to suggest maybe you could find a VRBO and with enough room to start sewing again, could help offset the rental costs with income coming back in again :) I agree, I would go crazy living in an rv for that long with kids, too. If we have to do it, it will just be DH and I (and the 2 dogs)so won't be quite as bad.

    1. Thank you! I am going crazy and honestly, DH and I need it. Seriously need it. I have 30 quilts on a waiting list - so I can crank them out and get this going!

  5. I think it's a great idea, if you can afford it (which it sounds like you can). I completely admire & respect you for getting this far. You've hacked it way longer than we would have. So excited for you!

    1. Thank you! I really did try. 4 months in an RV during the hottest time of the year - yeah, I am proud of us too.
